June's Joys

 As the month comes to a close it seems appropriate to share a few of June's joys.   Black Raspberries ripening on the vine makes the list.  Several packages are in the freezer and a couple of pickings even made it into pie!

In spite of the dry weather the first cutting of hay was plentiful.  With the lack of rain, not certain there will be a second.  Praying we will get more moisture in July.

Fortunately we have been blessed with a strong well and was able to keep the veggie patch growing.  This was the first year for straw bale gardening.  Not certain will do this again but will let you know in August.

The daylilies always manage to tolerate dry weather and drought.

This beauty is a favorite and a real beauty.

 Early summer apples have been a pleasure.  Made two batches of sauce and there is more to come.  That is if the deer don't get them before I do :)!!

Last but not least, Kelsey's company on our daily walks certainly is a joy.

Finished

 It is hard to believe the first week of June is finished.  Time goes so fast.  Am making notes of what is making a show these first few days of the month.  It is always pleasant when the calendar turns to winter to have reminders of  this lovely season of the year.

Clematis is just beginning to bloom and it should last several weeks but its visit never seems long enough.

    The Larkspur and the the orange daylilies just happened to pop up together (an unplanned surprise).  Glad they decided to keep each other company.

Hosta brings a pleasing note to a shady spot in the garden.  Seems remarkable that a large leaf plant can produce such delicate blooms.

Well am off to do a bit of sketching.

A Lovely Finish

 May is leaving us with a lovely finish.

The clematis has started to bloom...

Spiderwort and Yellow daylilies are giving us a show...

The pink peonies are bursting forth...

White Campanella bells are standing tall as the month of May waves farewell.

Lastly one must not forget the foxglove.  They too wanted to say good by.

On that note I will say good night and wish all of you a lovely finish to your month of May.

July's Finish

Well sweet friends this week marks July's finish.

This month has brought us breathtaking sunsets...











delightful daylilies

fragrant phlox...

abundant squash and zucchini... 

plenty of green beans to snap...

and delicious Lodi apples for sauce and baking.

As July winds down and makes its final finish this week - hoping that all of you are enjoying a lovely end of the month.

Transition

The month of August seems to always bring changes.  It is a transition time.  Summer not quite over and fall not quite here.

Like the garden I tend to slow down and savor the final bits of this warm season.

The last of the day lilies are completing their show.

The peaches are sharing the end of their harvest.

Iron weed has began to decorate the hedgerow.

Even Shelby knows it is time to take a break and enjoy these precious passing moments of summer.











Hope each of you are enjoying them as well.

P.S.   At least here at Harmony Hills the yellow school buses are hitting the road this week.   May all the children be safe.

Old Faithfuls

These old faithfuls are such treasures in the garden.  

In spite of our unusually dry summer this year they have faithfully continued to put on a show.

 Daylilies are not fussy.   Whether in sun or shade...

rain or drought














they continue to bloom each day.

Over the years I have added different varieties and colors.  All seem to grow and flourish making them wonderful plants that never seem to disappoint.

If choosing well one can have blooms from May to August.   For this reason they are one of my favorite perennials.

Good Report

WIP

  It is always wonderful when one receives a good report.    This was the case with my Mom's procedure.   All went well.   No surgery necessary.  

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.    They really worked.

Summer is in full swing and so is the garden.
With all the rain we have recently received everything is lush.

These Star Gazer lilies are so fragrant.   They add lovely color this time of the year to a shady bed.

The day lilies are still continuing to spread their charm.    Some of the later ones are real dazzlers.

This patch of green beans has went wild.   Looks like I will soon be busy harvesting their bounty.

Isn't summer wonderful!!

July's Delights

 July's garden is filled with an abundance of daylilies.    These flowers seem to flourish most anywhere.   They prefer sunshine but they grow in dappled shade as well.

They are not fussy.   There is such a wide variety from which to choose.   Over the years I have planted  many lovely ones.    This is just a sprinkling of a few that grow at Harmony Hills.

 

Each bloom only lasts for a day.   Generally they have many buds so one can expect them to decorate the garden for several weeks.

Changes

 Summer has brought changes to the garden.   Our spring in Ohio was extremely dry.   The crops looked rather sad.   The drought seemed like there was no end.   Then June arrived.   It brought an abundance of moisture.  

Now everything is flourishing.    The grass has become lush.   Daylilies and hollyhocks are bringing bright color to the flower beds.  The beans and squash have grown in leaps and bounds.  The corn was much higher than knee high by the fourth.   Isn't it amazing how some changes make such a difference!

 

 

Here is another one that has done some changing...

 

  

 

She just turned six months old on the fourth of July.

 

Hard to believe she was this little. 

 

Just goes to show the importance of savoring each moment.   Nothing stays the same.    Everything will change given time.
