Seeing this lovely violet patch blooming reminded me that I had been wanting to gather a few. Many years ago I had candied some to decorate a cake for my beloved mom. April was her birthday month and she loved flowers, the color purple and the taste of lemon.
In life there are many things that remind us of those we love. It may be a scent, a sound, or even a certain way the light falls that transports us back to a good memory.
For me violets are one of those special reminders.
They may be small but they call to the child in me.
The pleasure of picking a few for a bouquet and giving them to someone special never fails to make me smile.
In memory of Mom I chose to bake a batch of lemon cookies and decorate them with sugared violets.
Is there something special that brings you a good reminder? Hope you will share.
Have a lovely start to May.
Hugs
Debbie
"So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have." 2 Peter 1:12 (NIV)

These look lovely and I'm sure you will think of her with every bite. Last weekend I was painting lilac trees and the look of them and the smell made me think of my grandmother. I think the first time I saw or smelled lilacs was with her. Have a great day!!!
ReplyDeleteThe violets are lovely. I've heard of of candied violets but I've never tried doing that myself. What a nice way to remember your mom. Those cookies look delicious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to remember your mom. Any time I hear or see a hummingbird, I say it's my mom saying hi...
ReplyDeleteOh Debbie, your lemon cookies with icing and violets are so special. I love all the things your dear mom loved - flowers, purple, and the taste of lemon. Purple is actually my favorite color! Your cookies look so moist and Yummy. How wonderful that you gather the violets and give them to a loved one.
ReplyDeleteHappy May Debbie!

Mmmm, delicious looking. Wonderful memories of "moms". I'm reminded of mine with rainbows and white faced calves, she called them blossoms.
ReplyDeleteOur little patches of violets came and went so quickly this year. I have heard of candied violets…it sound like something served at high tea :). I think my memory food would be my grandmother’s banana pudding with browned marshmallows on top.

Nomnomnomomommmm they look delicious 😋 I love seeing all the spring flowers. There have been lots on my walks with Lu. The grass in the garden is awash with daisies, dandelions and at the edges buttercups. It looks so cheerful. Best wishes for a sunny and flower filled week.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear Debbie, so lovely post and photos!! Thank you so much. I love violets, too. Right now, we're getting into an autumn though, little violets are enjoying sunshine. ((Hugs)), love and smile, Sadami
