A Passage

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.   Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."    John 14:27 (NIV)

Wishing you a peaceful night.    God Bless!

Reading

Quiet summer evenings are a perfect time for reading.  There is something special about curling up with a good book.  Such a great way to relax after a busy day.

"The Guardian" by Nicholas Sparks has been on my shelf for several months.  It has been waiting for the gardening chores to slow down.  What a fine page turner.

Kaaren Poole's "How to Sketch Animals has practical illustrations on drawing sweet furry friends.

"Watercolor Simplified" shares Pat Weaver's fresh and vibrant style.   She shows the importance of  planning values and choosing a good composition.  Her limited palette also keeps the painting process simple.

So glad you took a moment to see what I am reading.  Hope you have something good on your bookshelf!

Thanks for stopping by.   Have a wonderful evening!

Winding Down

There are signs that summer is winding down.

The sunflowers begin to bow their heads.

Leaves start to gather on the ground.

Late blooming perennials perfume the garden.

Crickets can be heard singing in the night.   Day's arrival comes later and it's stay is shorter.

All these signs serve to remind me "There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot."  Ecclesiastes 3:1-2.

Thank you for taking some precious time to stop by.      May you enjoy the last of summer's interlude!

Creative Endeavors

Today's creative endeavors took place in the kitchen.   With zucchini in abundance I decided to bake these orange glazed loaves.   They are a favorite of mine.   Very tasty with a bit of cream cheese spread on thinly.
This casserole was an experiment that turned out well.   The existing recipe used ingredients that were not gluten free.   I did some substituting and came up with a dish hubby loved.

Creating can be found in so many different forms.   It may be painting...

Growing a garden

taking a picture

or writing a post.

Whatever your creative endeavor is...may it bring you joy today!
 Thank you for stopping by.

Skunked and other happenings!

Phew!!  Look who got skunked.   One would think that an old dog would learn that certain woodland creatures should not be investigated.

Just a whiff and I knew my work was in place this morning.   In the past have used canned tomato juice but it has never quite done the trick for me.   Besides it takes gallons to do the job.    Since this method has dubious results decided to check out the internet.

Isn't cyber space wonderful??   Just typed in getting skunk odor out of dog and with a click E-How had a simple recipe.   All household items one would have on hand...vinegar (white)-baking soda, dish detergent (Dawn) and hydrogen peroxide.
It even told you how many applications to use and the real secret (don't wash the whole dog - only the spot or spots where he has been sprayed.  That way the skunk oil isn't spread all over).   Hurray it works.

This one was in the mix of things.   Thankfully she managed to escape getting a stinky dose.

Once the excitement died down the afternoon unfolded with a visit to a local car show.    The day was perfect for this event.

My favorite was a 1955 Crown Victoria.  How can one not love those headlights and all the chrome that glistens.  Now that is a car I would like to drive.   How about you?

Even found some time later in the day to work in a bit of sketching.

Glad you took time to stop by.   Hope you had a wonderful day too.    God Bless!

Hello!

August hello!

July... You left in such a hurry I didn't even say goodbye.   Where does the time go?
It is good the garden makes note of  these fleeting days.   The Rose of Sharon above has started to bloom.   The hummers love this shrub.   So do I.

Sweet smelling garden phlox provides nectar for the butterflies and bees.

Sunflowers grow strong and give seed for the birds that stop to visit.

Daylilies continue to show off  their bright colors.

I am thankful that the garden keeps track of the time.

Hope you are enjoying these summer days.
God Bless !

Sow

It is the time of the year when I begin to sow seeds for the coming season.  Discovered a different method on You Tube...they call it "...
