March Happenings

Sharing some March happenings in my part of the world.

We are seeing blue skies with sunshine after a long dark winter.

Black-capped chickadees  regularly show up for lunch.

 Also sparrows gather waiting to get their fair share.

Even this flock of wild turkeys made a quick visit.

On another subject this month's bookshelf has two books I am reading.  Both authors are new to me.  Will give an update when finished.

Have finally returned to the studio to do some sketching and painting.  It has been a while.  Thinking spring's arrival will help bring some needed inspiration.

Holding On

This boy is holding on as winter's bluster continues.

His lovely mate is waiting to eat.

Their Blue Jay friend is thinking it is more than his turn at the feeder...

while these two buddies are just happy to clean up the leftovers.

Yes sweet friends I am holding on too while winter continues her visit.

We are preparing like so many in our part of the world for the coming Arctic Air .   Hope all of you are warm and safe.

Variety of Visitors

The  summer garden brings a variety of visitors.   Some are plain...

Others are quite colorful...

Some jabber loudly...

while others are more subdued...

and some are
 so tiny they might be missed.

No matter the color or size though all are welcome.

So glad you stopped by for a visit too.

Finished

As I have shared in the past I often struggle with whether a painting or sketch is finished.

Wouldn't it be nice to know for certain?

This peach tree knows it is not finished until it bears fruit.

As far as my brother is concerned this chocolate cake is finished :)!

To my eye this small painting is finished.    There is nothing more I want to say.

 Not so certain about this one.  Perhaps I will set it aside and think on it a bit.

As for the little sparrow it seems to always know when the bird seed is finished and it is time to go.

Upon that thought I will say this week's post is finished and it is time for me to go also.

"His Eye is on the Sparrow"

   This little sparrow reminded me of an old hymn we sang many years ago.   Unfortunately we don't seem to sing it much now.   "His Eye is on the Sparrow"  written by Civilla D Martin.   The tune was by Charles H Gabriel.

The words to the first stanza are:

"Why should I feel discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely And long for Heav' n and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me; His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He cares for me.

The chorus follows with "I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me."

 
Lovely words that remind us that a loving Heavenly Father is not only watching over the Sparrow but He watches over us.

"His Eye Is On the Sparrow"

An old hymn "His Eye is On the Sparrow" always comes to mind when I see these sweet birds at the feeder.   The words were written by Civilla D. Martin  and then set to music by Charles H. Gabriel.

"Why should I feel discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely And long for Heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion?  My constant Friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me;"

Other songs have become more popular at church these days. Many are beautiful as well.   Many have lovely words .  Many are joyful.
Yet in certain times when life seems overwhelming and winter comes to the heart...there is wonderful comfort in the thought that the One whose eye is on the sparrow also is the One who watches me.

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?"  Matt: 6:26 (NIV).

Fine Feathered Friends

Blue Jay

Some fine feathered friends came by to say hello today.

The snowy weather didn't keep them from gathering to visit.

These three chums arrived together.    I think they wanted to make sure there was going to be plenty of vittles.

Ms. Tufted titmouse came alone.   She seemed to be in a bit of hurry.  Didn't linger long.  I am sure she will be back again soon.

Naturally Mr. Cardinal showed up.    He was a bit late.   I think he may have been delayed because his girlfriend was taking her time getting ready.

I must say she looked well decked out when she finally made her appearance.

So glad these friends took time to stop by.   Glad you did too.

Fresh Snow and the Birds

 Morning brought us another fresh covering of snow.

This little Sparrow didn't seem to be bothered one bit.    He patiently was waiting his turn to eat.








The backyard restaurant had a stream of patrons all afternoon.  The lines were long.  It was so busy at times I had to keep restocking the buffet.

Mr. Cardinal claimed his place before Ms. Blue Jay arrived.

 Later they had quite a discussion over the cracked corn dish.












As the day faded into evening one by one they left.

It was time to go home.  Time to get some rest.

 
Tomorrow they will be back.   Hope you will too.
