The Christmas season always seems to bring back sweet memories. As I place certain ornaments on the tree it amazes me that some are over 40 years old. It is only the special ones that get to be there. They may be a bit frayed or discolored from time but each brings to mind when they were given and by whom. This small ceramic nativity scene holds a warm place in my heart. One of my old and dear friends gifted it to me. She and I for many years spent every Sunday morning playing the piano and organ together for our worship service. Now she lives in Texas...we don't see each other unless she comes home to visit.
When I left my previous place of employment...all the wonderful gals I worked with gave me this lovely Christmas arrangement. It never ceases to make me smile. Astonishing that was 18 years ago this December.
Naturally it is not the physical gifts that matter but the spirit of love that makes them priceless.
Bet you as well, have gifts and treasures that give your heart a sweet memory or two. Hope you will share.
Have a blessed week.
Hugs
Debbie
"...He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and long to see us, just as we also long to see you." 1 Thess. 3:6 b (NIV)
I have some ornaments we use on the tree that are from my family and my husband’s. We treasure them! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the wonderful memories you have of your special ornaments and Christmas decorations. They really do have special meaning to us, don't they? There was a leak in my snow globe and I had to toss it. It is one that Jess gave me many years ago, and a favorite, so you can imagine it really got to me that I had to let it go. Your ceramic Nativity is so pretty, and so nice that you still have the Christmas arrangement that your work gals gave you so long ago. Your old, frayed, and discolored ornaments are treasures, Debbie.

It is wonderful to see your decorations that have spanned the years. I have a large collection of ornaments and decorations that all have a special significance because they were from childhood, purchased in a special place, or were gifts from special people in my life. Each evokes a memory as I place it on the tree. They are all so special as are the people they remind me of. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about it not being the actual ornaments. The memories they give us are worth so much more.
ReplyDeleteI lost my BFF two Christmases ago... friends are the best.

I find it wonderful to read that someone treasures gifts from long ago and from friends. I feel the same way. Your naivety scene looks a lot like ours. My mom was a crafter, and I have so many of her things and it just reminds me about her every time I see something she made.
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful memories, Debbie. I don't have Christmas ornaments from my childhood, my sister may have them. But I treasure Christmases with my son and his grandparents at my house when he was little. And I'm looking forward to Chistmases with my granddaughter. The spirit of love, that's the most important.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, thanks for sharing. Old ornaments do bring on the memories. I debated not putting them up but I think I should. Thanks for the inspiration.
