I am sharing one of my favorite songs from the 70's "Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters. It seems appropriate since we have had several days of rain here.
There are certain lyrics and music that transports one to another time and place. This one takes me back to the front porch of my childhood home. It was where the old turn-style record player was kept. ( Remember those? If one moved too much the needle would jump.) There was a comfortable rocking settee close by. It was a favorite spot to curl up to read and listen to all those great songs that still remain classics today.
Actually rainy days don't get me down. They provide extra time to work in the studio. It is a great opportunity to draw and paint those spring flowers that the showers have brought.

Hello Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI love the Carpenters, and I really miss the record players.. What a beautiful memory you shared.. Funny how sounds and scents can bring back special moments in time..
Love your artwork here..
Wishing you a beautiful week.
blessings,
Penny
Hi Debbie, Thanks for your rainy day memories. I Love that song from the Carpenters and it made me feel more content with life as this past week has been full of rainy days.. Such a pretty painting you are working on. Unfortunately some of our rain came with strong winds and has swiped a lot of the blossom from the trees.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I love rainy days (as you know). I sure wish we had rain right now. There must be an arsonist running loose...there are fires all around us, thankfully small, although there is an 900 acre one burning in Etiwanda, about thirty miles from us. I don't think I'll be sleeping much tonight.
ReplyDeleteI love your painting of dogwood blossoms that you're working on!
Blessings,
Victoria
Thank you for sharing the carpenters' song, it feels good to listen to it. Your WIP flower is pretty. Hope the weather there will soon be better. God bless
ReplyDeleteYour painting is beautiful, Debbie. No surprise to me; your gentle spirit comes through each painting.
ReplyDeleteI love this song and Karen's voice...I just felt super sad listening to it...days that are long gone and that will never return...a lost soul gone too soon...
Lovely post today Debbie. Ah, we have spring showers too all week long......we are wet, wet and more wet. Hubby said last night "at least it isn't snow." Ha, ha, ha. Maybe after this rain is done everything will bloom here all at once. I love to paint or write when it's rainy too. When I wasn't painting, years ago, and writing more I'd hunker down with pots of tea and the old Smith Corona typewriter and pump out some wonderful poems. I think I miss that.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the song
ReplyDeleteYour pictures and painting are beautiful. There's something about an Ohio fog that doesn't feel dreary. Its magical.
beautiful Debbie, I too love the Carpenters. We are having a rainy spell too but the glistening leaves this morning are gorgeous.Sending you a hug, love to you and thank you,Diana
ReplyDeleteI love the misty rainy pictures you took, I feel like i can smell the new spring growth in the pictures and your work in progress is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great song . I enjoyed the Carpenters.
ReplyDeleteI know often enough I will enjoy a rainy day and I love a good thunderstorm. It's raining as we speak , I think I will do something with clay today .
Great photos ~ very atmospheric !
One of my favorites songs, too, and I always think the rain just makes the color on the tress and flowers pop.Marvelous watercolor BTW!
ReplyDeleteNice work on your dogwood painting, so pretty! Your garden is still lovely, even in the rain! We are having the same dreary weather here, can't wait for the sun again. Always loved Karen C's voice, such a shame about her.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely, Debbie. I have always loved The Carpenters, Karen had a crystal clear, beautiful voice.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your dogwood painting . It is so delicate. I love that song too. They don't have thos e wonderful songs today. Although I do like the song Happy it gets me moving.Ha
ReplyDeleteDear Deb. Rainy days don't get me down either, actually I like the mood of rainy days :-) Thank you for the lovely song ...many memories just popped up , and so pretty your watercolor ! Great work on the flowers, white on white is not easy , but you enhanced the flowers beautifully ! xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a rainy day here today and it's a great opportunity to do indoor activities. I love your work in progress and photos! The Carpenters have so many great songs, brings back good memories!
ReplyDeleteDidn't Karen Carpenter have a beautiful voice?
ReplyDeleteWe're experiencing a rainy Friday right now, but it's OK as I'm sure we need the moisture. I don't have to go anywhere today; in fact, I need to stay home and get some things done. If I get what I need done, I'll reward myself with a reading break and listen to the rain!
I so enjoyed reading your reminiscences & seeing your images. And yes, I do remember my little record player, playing records made me so happy! I'm loving the spring rains, still grateful that it is no longer snow! Your misty photo is lovely...
ReplyDeleteLovely misty, rainy look to the photos. I love that song. My husband and I listen to music every night with dinner and last night he was playing a Carpenter's CD. I remember those record players and sometimes having to put a penny on the arm to make it play correctly. Nice memories of the music and those times.
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful Debbie.....loved that song, and I love the pictures of the rain and misty rain. I can tell you I was 12 when that song came out and remember very well listening to it in my "old" bedroom....right before I walked to school....sunshine or rain Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteYour rainy day photos look very cosy and picturesque! Enjoyed revisiting the song too! Your work in progress is shaping up beautifully Debbie!
