Patterns and Such!

Have you ever noticed how patterns make up our days? They can be quite comforting.

I have been rediscovering Zentangles.  It has been several years ago that I pursued this form of art.  It is a relaxing way to just let your pen find repeated strokes that come together and form abstract shapes.  It is neat to combine them with watercolors.  There are many "You Tube" channels available to watch.  Even if you are not artistically inclined you may find this a great way to unwind.

Speaking of unwinding...a trip to the library last weekend produced a delightful stack of books.

I am reading the Last House by Jessica Shattuck.  It spans several generations and approximately 80 years.  All about the "age of oil".  Thus far very enjoyable read.

Winter has certainly come to stay for awhile.  We received another 3-4 inches overnight.

The birds are visiting constantly.  When the snow flies they come by for some nourishment.

Kelsey is always happy to come indoors after a romp in winter's wonderland...

Gunny too!

Especially if he can have a bone.

There are certain things that comprise the quiet days of this season.. There are patterns I fall into...like reading a good book...taking long walks with the pooches...watching tv with my sweetie and sipping a hot drink.  These form my days and bring me comfort.

How about you?  What patterns are you enjoying?

Have a lovely week.

Hugs

Debbie

  1. Happy Winter?
Pintangles are relaxing to draw, always surprises at the end. Your work is gorgeous.

    Gunny!
Wow, I've been away from blogger longer than I thought.

  2. Nice zentangles. I haven't done any of those in quite a while. I find them very relaxing to create. I've been reading a lot, working on collages from a workshop, sketching, learning a bit of Italian online, and watching movies. Some of it is relaxing and some a bit stressful (the Italian). I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy your patterns.

  3. I enjoyed your post lovely photos. we have never lived close to a library so I end up buying books instead-I do a lot with kindle as they are less money and take no bookshelves-smiles.
I have working today on getting rid of the thick ice on our steep steps-what a job. this has been a rough winter for us

  5. Such a lovely and comforting sharing dear Debbie!

I loved knowing how you fill colours in day to day painting provided by nature :)
I despite not being a painter can realise the serenity that one can feel while drawing freely with open heart and letting the things appear in their natural patterns 🥰
Your routine is lovely as well and so are your companions 😍
    Hugs and best wishes

  6. Love the Zen tangles. That does look like a great way to relax. It's things like those that I can get lost in the process.
I don't know that I've had any patterns lately. I've been more of a big blob on the couch under a blanket.

  8. I love your comforts. I have never heard of zentangles before I will have to look them up. I do like your book choices. And we got some snow too. Gosh you have two sweet dogs there - Kelsey and Gunny. Enjoy the peace.

  9. The zentangles book looks like a relaxing and fun hobby. You know, years ago, I picked up a fairy coloring book for adults. I had a nice time for a while coloring, and it's a quiet and calm hobby. I always love seeing your snow pictures, and the bird house one is delightful. Kelsey looks so regal sitting up like that. I hope the new year is being good to you, Debbie.

  13. I have another friend who enjoys zentangles. She's done some amazing things. We are enjoying cool weather for once, and finally I'm seeing birds on my feeder and on the birdbath at the new house. It took them a little while to find us.

  14. I just spent too much time looking at zentangles on Youtube haha. Your dogs are so cute. I can't believe you have that much snow!

  15. Oh my gosh but Gunny is getting big! The snow looks so beautiful but must make life a little harder at times when there is so much of it. I haven't seen so much in real life it looks very deep. I like the idea of snow more than the reality I think. I love seeing your sketchbook pages, I have only seen zentangles in black and white but love the way you have combined it with watercolour - genius! Best wishes.
