Really?

Can it be really?  Yes friends, it is snow and I am not ready!

Just a week ago it was in the high 60's, warm and sunny.  Today it is in the low 30's and cold.

The Calendula are saying "we are not ready either".  

I don't think the cosmos have ever been blooming this late in the season. For sure never when it has snowed.

Guess it is here whether we are ready or not.

Definitely time for a warm cup of cider.

Keeping it Simple

Sometimes keeping something simple is the best way.

Baked apples are a delicious dessert that can be prepared and enjoyed in less than an hour.

The ingredients are easily found.

Four apples (I used Ida Reds)...peeled and cored.   1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 tsp. of cinnamon, 1 tsp. of nutmeg mixed together...1/2 cup of apple juice (cider is much better) heated and four tsp. of butter is all that is needed.

Fill each hole in the apple with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg mixture. Then top with 1 tsp. of butter on each apple and pour the heated cider over the top.   Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 25-35 min.  basting occasionally with the cider mixture.

Served warm with a scoop of a vanilla ice cream makes this a delightful dessert sure to please.

Cider Run

 A cider run is one of our autumn traditions.   We take the motorcyle and ride to a place about thirty minutes from our home.

 

Mapleton Cider Mill has been in operation for several decades. 

      

   Local apples and pears are used to make this sweet beverage.  It is the old fashioned type...unpasteurized.

 

   At this time of the year the Mill is always open.   There is an honor system in place.  You just go to the side of the building and leave your money in a box by the cooler door.

 

 

 

   

 

 

Occasionally there is someone to greet you. 

 

 

 

We generally purchase two gallons...one for us and one for my folks.   

 

 

 

        

 It is a lovely place to go.   There is beautiful scenery along the way.
