Enjoying

In spite of the dry weather we are enjoying the veggies that can be picked daily.

Did I mention one can never have enough zucchini - well possibly it is time to pass a few along to some friends and neighbors :)!

These lovely lilies are one of my favorite flowers that bloom in August.  They bend their petals downward instead of opening up to the sky.  They grow tall and don't seem to mind the heat and lack of moisture.

Garden phlox is another perennial that blooms later in the summer.  They are not as joyful as the lilies but their fragrance makes up for their lack of show.

The little hummers continue to visit and keep us very entertained.

Well dear friends this is what we are enjoying at Harmony Hills this week.  Hope you will take a minute to share something that is bringing you joy.
Hugs

Debbie

  1. Oh, those lilies are really lovely! Glad you have fresh veggies to pick. I have to rely on the farmer's markets here for something really fresh, although a friend did give me a zucchini the other day that was about half the size of a baseball bat. lol I am finally getting to enjoy the pool in our development now that my incision is completely healed. I have been waiting...and not very patiently. Enjoy the joys of August!

  2. I like the new look of your blog. I also like the lilies and phlox. My phlox is also blooming good. Love that fragrance. We are having our first rain in August today. I don't think we will get much but it is coming coming down in a nice flow for the garden to be able to absorb most of it. It feels good to me and I am sure I have heard the satisfied murmurings of the plants. Have a great week.

  4. Lovely lovely photos --- it's been raining for over a week here in coastal NC --- but today the sun is finally shining ... but temps -- in the 90+s with equal humidity sure have our plants looking as weary as we feel .... Hope you have a great week!

  5. Those lilies are interesting when they bloom. Have never seen them grow downward
like that. Your veggies are wonderful, and so many things you can make with them
while cooking your meals each day. Not sure if I mentioned to you, but my Dad had
a garden across the street from our house growing up, and he would bring home the
best looking zucchini. My Mom would wash them up and cook them for dinner that
night. And there's noting like home grown tomatoes, is there? Enjoy the remainder
of the Summer days. I'm looking forward to seeing Autumn in your area, Debbie.

  7. Our hummingbird feeder hangs in front of the kitchen window, and sometimes we don't get very much done what with watching them. The phlox (or maybe it is wild sweet William?) that comes up by itself year after year is is profuse and some of them are 5 feet tall.

  12. Lovely photos of a warm summer . Nice to have this abundance of zucchini . I sometimes make cakes with zucchini as they help keeping the cake moist , but probably you do the same.
