Our mistress has been spending a great deal of time doing value patterns this week. She is reading a book "7 Keys to Great Paintings" by Jane R Hofstetter. It is a book that has been on her shelf for quite some time.
According to Jane having value shape plans in place can be such a wonderful tool when creating a painting. Often times the struggle to turn something into a pleasing composition lacks good planning. Having these small thumbnails with just dark and light passages can be quite useful when it comes time to putting down color. Jane's work, showcased within the book, covers a great variety of subjects .
Her art is a pleasure to study.
With the return of ice and snow we are once again limiting our play time outdoors.
We all will be very happy when spring arrives. Well thanks for stopping by to visit. Looks like more bone chewing inside will be the pattern plan for the coming week. Take care.
P.S. Happy Valentine's Day.
Hugs,
Kelsey and Gunnar

Oh, our snow turned to hard snow too, Debbie, and that is very hard to shovel - have to break it up a bit. But thankfully, the sun will be out for a few days, and it may melt the snow. Your dogs are beauties. And that is such a pretty outdoor picture.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day, Debbie.

Your mistress is studying a beautiful book! With great studies! Sorry for the cold weather !
ReplyDeleteThe ice looks so pretty hanging off the branches but I'm always worried about how much damage the ice will cause.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the inside bone chewing.
Love the photo of the trees showing the ice as it does!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - I don't blame you for saying in when you have that much snow - I would do the same thing!
ReplyDeleteYou got the snow and ice, too! Seems like it’s too late for this but if I remember correctly when I was living in Indiana many years ago, we had a huge snowstorm on Valentine’s Day - so sometimes February can bring that last snow of the season (I hope so). Doing these studies has always been a good way to see the painting before you do it but also just a way to keep working towards something. I don’t do them prior to a painting but use them as a study guide (I, too, have many art books on my shelf I could delve into again - or for the first time). Hope you are enjoying exploring inside while the weather keeps you in! - Rhonda Carpenter
ReplyDeleteOhhhh puppas, how good you are! I'm glad your Mistress is keeping you both busy in gainful employment whilst she herself is working hard. I hope the thaw comes soon for you so you can run in the fields again. Stay cozy.
ReplyDeleteValue study is so important to study. I am so bad at it-I always see how much I have to learn in art making! Oh my goodness, the dogs are so beautiful! Stay warm my friend.
ReplyDeleteKelsey and Gunnar: Brr! Hope you've been able to play outside recently, and that your mom gave you lots of good chewy bones in the meantime. Looks like she used her indoor time well, though :)
