"His Eye is on the Sparrow"

This little sparrow reminded me of an old hymn we sang many years ago.   Unfortunately we don't seem to sing it much now.   "His Eye is on the Sparrow"  written by Civilla D Martin.   The tune was by Charles H Gabriel.

The words to the first stanza are:

"Why should I feel discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely And long for Heav' n and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me; His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He cares for me.

The chorus follows with "I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me."

Lovely words that remind us that a loving Heavenly Father is not only watching over the Sparrow but He watches over us.

Hope all of you have a blessed week.   Hugs Debbie

  2. Amen, Debbie! Beautiful photos and song! And your photos of the little sparrow remind me of a hymn we used to sing in the Presbyterian church when I was a little girl. "God sees the little sparrow fall, it meets His tender view. If God so loves the little birds, I know He loves me, too."

He loves me, too, He loves me, too, I know He loves me too...because He loves the little things, I know He loves me too.

He paints the lilies of the fields, perfumes each lily bell. If He so loves the little things, I know He loves me well. He loves me too, He loves me too, I know He loves me to. Because He loves the little things, I know He loves me too.

God makes the little birds and flowers, and all things large and small. He'll not forget His little ones, I know He loves them all.

He loves me, too, He loves me, too, I know He loves me, too. Because He loves the little things, I know He loves me, too.

Thank you so much for reminding me of this hymn, which I have always loved! Your posts bring me such joy, thank you so much for sharing, my cherished friend.

Hugs and love to you. :)

  4. It somehow reminds me that all of God's creatures are cared for, in some way, and watched over. Not always easy to discern how I think but definitely true (I hope!).

A lovely sentiment and hymn to start the week. Thank you, Debbie!

  9. My grandmother used to know the words to every hymn sang in church. She sang frequently to herself while cooking or working at home. Although I don't remember the tune, I am familiar with the words. What a nice memory!

  17. What a beautiful bird-and I think it's so easy to dismiss him because he's so common. Such a wonderful thought that nothing is common with the Lord.

  18. Hello Debbie, I don't know that hymn but I can appreciate reading the words you've provided. I love watching the little Sparrows, they're so sweet and I can understand the intent of those words. Lovely photos too :D)

  19. Such beautiful words thank you for sharing them. It’s a shame the old hymns are not sung so much now. My mum and dad loved one called The old rugged cross, and I love it too although it’s rare to hear it now.
