Spans the years

This sketch journal spans the years.   Thirteen to be exact.

The first entry was made March 20th, 2006...the final one February 28th, 2019.

Obviously it was not kept with regularity.

Sometimes days, weeks, and even months would pass before something was added.

Although the journal itself was not of the best quality I loved it for the fact that one page was blank and the other lined.

Not only was art happening within this book but thoughts and ideas were being recorded.

It holds memories that I am thankful got written down.  A lot of life happens over a span of thirteen years.   This journal/sketchbook serves as a reminder that whether one is drawing or writing there is meaning to be found in keeping a record.

Thank you for letting me share some pages from my life.

Have a blessed week.

Hugs Debbie

  3. A Blessed Week to you Debbie
Journals wait for us. I think now is a good time to place mine close to my desk. :)

  4. Doesn't it feel good to finish a journal?! I keep several journals going at one time. I would like a journal made the way this one is with a blank page for sketching and a lined page for writing. I hope you have a good week too.

  5. So wonderful, Deb ... I am a constant journal keeper -- one written, one visual -- and I combine them when I can ... LOVE going back and seeing what was going on and what I thought -- yes the years go by so fast -- if I don't write it down, it's too easy to forget ...

  6. I love your journal! This is the sort of thing I wish I would do. Notice I said "would" and "could". Why I won't attempt it baffles me. I'm sure it has everything to do with skill, which I don't automatically have. And if I have to work at it, then it's not fun. I either have to lower my expectations or raise my stick-to-it-ness.

  7. This is a lovely keepsake-and I don't think it matters that some days or months passed when you didn't add to it. You have finished it, and the paintings and calligraphy are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing it!

  9. Oh Debbie, how wonderful that you journal. This book is great, and I didn't know you sketched. What a talent that is. I also journal, and have been writing in mine a lot this year. But like you, sometimes I won't write for a long time, then I'll get back to it.

Keep journaling, Debbie. You will look back and see what an interesting and beautiful life you had.

  15. I think it’s a great idea to keep a journal. I never did so I guess posting my work in a blog is how I do it. I bought a small sketch book months ago and think it’s time to start sketching!!!! You inspire us...lol

  17. I think journals are a wonderful way to document your art ideas. It shows what your interests were at any time and the thoughts you had relating to what you drew. Wish I had begun one earlier, but one can start at any time.

  19. It must be really interesting to look through a sketchbook that spans such a long amount of time. It is really a record of your life and even your growth as an artist. It is great that you did some writing in addition to sketching.

  20. of course I just love this so much :) I love when a journal spans years , there is something very special about it, the type of journal that I have that does that is my little pocket moleskines that are commonplace books and lists of books read and they are very special to me, I'd like to come up with more ideas of something that could just be added to every once in awhile and this inspires me to come up with something.
Hope you are having a great day!
