"Sit Still"

WIP
My mother used to say when I was much younger "will you please sit still."   That was never an easy thing for me to do.   It hasn't changed these many years later.  Perhaps that is why hummingbirds fascinate me so...   always on the move and rarely still.

This past summer they left much earlier than the previous one.   There wasn't even  an opportunity to say good bye.   Obviously they were in a hurry to get to their winter home.

The feeders are still hanging in the pussy willow bush.  They look  forlorn.   Time to take them down.   How quickly the seasons pass.   It seems like just yesterday they arrived for their summer visit.  Where does time go?

In a few weeks Thanksgiving will be here and before one knows it snow.   The hummers will be somewhere warm making their travel plans for spring.  I'll be waiting but for sure not "sitting still."!

Shelby - 9 Mos.

So glad you took a moment to hum by.    Have a  wonderful day!

  1. Debbie, I love your painting of the flower and hummingbird, so beautiful. I heard 'sit still' often from my mom when I was a child. Oh, how I wish I had the energy now that I had then!

    Blessings,

    Victoria

  2. That's really beautiful what you said about saying goodbye to the hummingbirds! Your painting is gorgeous, and so full of peaceful joy, with the flowing lines and soft blended colors. I like the angle of the bird, lifting his neck to kiss the flower.

  6. Shelby found the comfy spot!! We just took down our feeder a couple of days ago. The last time it was full, it seemed to stay full for quite awhile. Then all of a sudden it was gone. We figured we were a fueling station on the migration path.

  17. Yes I too think that the seasons pass way too quickly - although summer is still lingering here. I love your drawing. You have captured the hummingbird well.

  18. I'm glad you don't sit still....that way we see more of what catches your attention. Lovely painting of the hummingbird! It is sad to see things change and leave for the season, but the colors that we are starting to see are amazing! Enjoy!

  19. Your painting looks sensitively done and the colors are beautiful. I had to take my feeders away because I got upset that the Rufus attacked all comers. I want peace to reign in my neck of the woods. I sure have no control of it anywhere else.
Seeing Shelby looking so good has made my day.

  20. Dear Debbie: Another beautiful and nostalgic post from you. Perhaps there is an apt saying for this instance: 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'. Possibly we need a rest from things so we can enjoy them and appreciate them all the more when they come back into our lives. Your painting is off to a flying start. So beautiful and delicately painted already. Don't blink because those gorgeous hummers will be back before you know it. Take care. xx
