Not Quite!

The Neighbors
The peak is not quite here but almost.   We had our first killing frost of the season last evening. That should mean the hills will don their finest colors and give us a lovely show in the next few days.

In the meantime we are preparing for autumn's glory.
Otis

Otis is looking pretty dapper from his long stay in the shed.   We have brought him out so he can enjoy this beautiful season.

Naturally there are a few veggies needing to be harvested .  These beets will be delicious pickled.

Couldn't resist picking some of the remaining annuals.   They will soon be gone.

Oh and yes we could not forget the fresh apple cider.   Yummy!

I think we are finally ready now.    Hope you are too.

Have a Blessed Week!

Spooky

From a far it looked rather spooky.

Getting closer didn't make it seem less so.

Coming along side of it...

one could see it wasn't moving.

Was it a trick?

No its a treat!

A giant mushroom waiting to be found.

Hope there are no tricks and only treats for you.    Happy Halloween!

Some updates...

Just some updates ... We've become friends!
Isn't it amazing what a few apples or carrots can do to build a friendship.  It has been my experience that often times breaking bread together builds good relations.   There is something wonderful that happens when folks share a meal (or an apple or carrot) .  Walls come down and bridges are built.
Just like my new friend - we may differ in our perspective but we both enjoy a crunchy treat.

Speaking of treats...the flower fairy visited and left Mr. Scarecrow with an armload of blossoms.   He is now complete.

In keeping with the season of gathering I have been collecting odd bits and pieces of nature.   My studio is becoming somewhat untidy from all the things being brought in.

When drawing I take time to see the tiny intricate patterns that decorate an acorn cap and the small florets that comprise goldenrod. It is extraordinary the fine detail God has showcased in what seems ordinary.

Thank you for allowing me to share some of life's updates.   May you have a blessed evening!

Making a memory...

Making a memory is what life is all about.  Today I had an appointment with one.

My wonderful hubby thought bales of straw with pumpkins and mums for decorating might be rather boring.

He had something else in mind.

Umm!  Perhaps he could use a bit of help .

While sweetie was busy constructing arms and legs out of plastic pipe I decided to get creative .

Using a pillowcase stuffed with straw I loaded a brush with acrylic ink and painted a face.  (This is definitely not my finest piece of art.)

Since neither one of us had ever made a scarecrow we took things slowly .  With a drill and a few rivets his clothing was attached to the pipe.   The head was a bit of a challenge but with more pipe and rivets he was snuggly connected.  To keep his straw hat on I sewed it to his head.  It was a bit like working on a patient.  More straw was necessary to pad him well and to give him weight so he would not blow away.  Then to dress him up a bit gloves were attached with plastic ties to the sleeves of the shirt.   By this time he was starting to take on some character.

The garden bench seemed like the perfect place to situate him.

Now he may not win a prize but perhaps he is a bit more interesting than a few mums and pumpkins.    Thanks for pulling up a bale of straw and taking some time to enjoy the making of a memory.    God Bless!

(P.S I think some bright chrysanthemums would complete this scene very nicely - umm- maybe the flower fairy will drop by tomorrow).

Setting Earlier

The sun is setting earlier these days.   A month ago we saw dusk arrive at 9:00 and then a few weeks ago it was 8:30 and now it is 8:00.   ...
