Finding Joy

I am finding joy in this lovely first snowfall of December.  How appropriate that it arrived as we begin the Christmas season.

Winter may not be my favorite time of the year but there is a special beauty to be found.

The appearance of each branch coated in white lends itself to a magical fairy tale waiting to be read.

It reminds me of joyful times. Snowy days spent sled riding with my brother and making snow men.    As a child I never minded the cold.  It was a part of life and the charm of being young and alive.

We knew when we grew tired and wet there was a warm cup of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows waiting for us indoors.  Mom would often accompany this special beverage with a plate of fresh baked cookies.

Even though many moons have passed since those precious days of childhood...there is so much joy in remembering winter days of fun and laughter.

How about each of you?  Are you finding joy in this season of the year?  I pray so!

Hugs!

Debbie

"In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy."  Phil. 1:4 (NIV)

  2. You brought back some splendid childhood memories for me, too, Debbie. That first snowfall is always the most magical one of all. We had tons of snow the year we lived in Massachusetts and my brother and I never tired of playing in it every chance we got. We didn't experience much snow before living in Georgia. Blessings and stay warm!

  4. Debbie, your reflections on the first snowfall are beautiful. I wish I could say I’m finding joy easily right now, but at the moment I’m not. I’ve hurt my back quite badly and the pain has been overwhelming.

And yet—these days have also shown me how much love surrounds me. I received a bouquet of flowers from my son, a sweet voice message from my daughter, and my husband has been so caring and helpful. Those small kindnesses mean more than I can say.

So even in a difficult week, I’m grateful for the tenderness of the people around me.

    Hugs to you too, Debbie.

  6. So glad I didn't miss this post. It's just beautiful...your words and the pictures. Isn't it funny how you never felt the cold when you were young and out playing in the snow. I remember mama fussing over our cold wet gloves and red fingers, telling us we needed to stay inside for a while and warm up, that we would get frost bite.

  7. I like this and sometimes I forget it - "In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy." Phil. 1:4 (NIV)
    Pray with joy.

You looked at all your photos with joy and memories. So cool.
It does seem magical - a little bit cold.
    Will it stay all winter?

  9. Your photos are absolutely beautiful. I enjoy the snow when it first falls and is still white and barely touched. I wish it would last that way. We didn't get any snow from this storm...just cold temperatures. Enjoy your weekend.

  12. You described these wonderful photos with such beautiful words.
    I'm thrilled!
…by the snow, by winter, by the season of light – by candles, carols, Christmas cookies, and being together with friends and family.
Warmest regards. I wish you a happy second Advent.
The fresh snow at your place is pure bliss.
    Hugs, Viola

  14. We've had several snow days already. A delight to see the world all wintry and wonderland-ish. We loved catching sight of the full moon - the sky was clear that night. A joy to see that bright shimmering globe in the dark sky.

  15. That looks so beautiful. It is like a film set. No so gorgeous here we have rain and lots and lots of mud. It is strangely mild so the mud is here to stay a good while. Best wishes for hot chocolate and marshmallows.

  17. It sounds like you had a wonderful mom making hot chocolate and cookies for you and your brother after coming in from the cold snow. Beautiful pictures. I especially like that last one. We are supposed to get our first snow right after Christmas.
