They can shape us...
encourage us...
inspire us...
and of course entertain us.
One only has to imagine what life would be like without the written word. How dark the world would be.
For me summer is my time to read. After the chores are done and the hot afternoon has come - there is nothing more rewarding than a shady spot with a glass of lemonade and a good book.
I have several on my list to read this summer. To all who have shared some of your lovely reviews - Thank You! It is always a pleasure when we can share a favorite book with each other.
Happy reading!
Have a blessed week.
Hugs Debbie
Oh, I like the way you spend your summer afternoons! I spend mine pretty much the same way. Blessings, Victoria
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect way to spend the day.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a good book and a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day. And there's nothing like actually holding a good book in your hands. I am a member of the resistance against online books.
Good to know about these books, thank you, Debbie. I feel guilty reading during the day. I have no idea where it comes from because my hubby can sit down with a book at any time. My reading time is during the evening hours. Mine are usually books on art or books on nature. The last year it has been dificult to read so i have gone to the computer where it is illuminated and i can make it larger. Aging!! Have a beautiful and blessed week, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading to you Debbie!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about what I might want to read over the summer... to create a little reading list. Right now I'm reading the memoir by Pat Conroy "My Reading Life" which I'm enjoying very much for his use of beautiful language. He knows how to make words sing and dance.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lovely week ahead, Debby!

I agree, Debbie. Your days sound sublime.
ReplyDeleteI need to make time to just sit and read-not instruction books-but REAL reading just for pleasure! Enjoy your resting time dear friend!
ReplyDeleteReading is a very good exercise for our brain. I mostly read online news recently. But yesterday I thought of reading a book titled 'Doughnut Economics' authored by Kate Raworth. This book seems to be academic but my favorite books to read are those focusing on true stories. Happy reading Debbie. God bless
ReplyDeleteIf only I could finish a book Deb. I have a stack near the bed and haven't finished one of them. Bad habit.
ReplyDeleteSuper selections!!!! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great way to spend summer! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteReading a book is the best way to spend a hot summer afternoon. It's either that or taking a nap.
ReplyDeleteI wish I can say I read in the afternoon .... But I feel like if I get a moment to do anything I would rather paint... After dinner I can relax and sit down to read but again...it would be a book about art!!! I'm a little obsessed...lol
ReplyDeleteHope you get plenty of lovely reading hours in this summer, Debbie.
ReplyDeleteSummertime is reading time for me too ! Wishing you a great week !
ReplyDeleteWow, good on you, Debbie! Your post summarises our job in publishing industry. Enjoy reading. Me, too, want to read some books. I always read both children picture books and books for adults. Best wishes, Sadami
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more, Debbie. Nothing encourages relaxation like reading an interesting book!
ReplyDeleteI connect summer with reading and always do a lot of it once summer starts. Now that I am retired and travel so much I use my iPad or my Kindle for reading so I don't have the extra weight of a pile of books to carry around. I do miss the actual feel of a real book but the convenience of the e-books at this point is such a plus. Enjoy your books and your week!!!
ReplyDeleteIt feels so good to sink into a good book.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, you've described the perfect day. Have fun!
