Old Faithfuls

common orange daylily
These old faithfuls are such treasures in the garden.

In spite of our unusually dry summer this year they have faithfully continued to put on a show.

Daylilies are not fussy.   Whether in sun or shade...

rain or drought

they continue to bloom each day.

Over the years I have added different varieties and colors.  All seem to grow and flourish making them wonderful plants that never seem to disappoint.

If choosing well one can have blooms from May to August.   For this reason they are one of my favorite perennials.

Do any of you have a faithful plant?   If so - hope you will share .

Thanks for taking time to stop and visit.   Have a lovely week.

Hugs Debbie

  1. Dearest Debbie, your photos are gorgeous! Living in Montreal and knowing how hot and humid our summers get and noticing (sadly) how the lilacs dry up, not being able to take the heat and humidity, the lilies thrive! I am so glad, because I hate to see flowers wilt, dry up and die.

  2. Hi Debbie! I love daylilies, my mother had a few plants of those, all of a striking orange color. Lovely memories!
But I do appreciate echinaceas for their toughness and seeds, the birds love them too. In the old days, the flowers were all pink , now we can find yellow, white and red colors. Have a lovely week in your garden! :) Hugs

  3. What a lovely selection of daylilies you have there. I associate these with water and creeks but they are growing just beautifully in your yard.

Hope the upcoming week will be a good one. Take care and thank you for the photos!

  4. Hi Debbie! Wish it would rain! We're dry here too, but hangin' in there...I also love the day lilies and have a few different ones. My favorite is a dark red-orange that has a very strong perfume-I don't know the name of it. But I think I'd have to stick with roses for my all-time favs in flowers. The different colors and the lovely smells-just can't do without them!

  7. Hi Debbie, day lilies are one of my favorites. Ours are about 5 feet tall this year and look so huge. I also love the purple Iris that just finished it's season before the day lilies bloomed.
    Wishing you a wonderful week.

  8. Beautiful photos
I love day lilies. Seeing them from afar as they are big allergy sources complete with headaches.

  10. I must be the only person who doesn't do very well with day lilies, all leaves and no flowers - I really should dig them up but the clump is too big - yours are lovely. And provide you with a lot of colour for a long time. Lucky you :)

  14. What pretty flowers they are. We're just got back to England - the gardens there are beyond beautiful. I couldn't stop staring at them. I love roses, hydrangeas and carnations but hydrangeas are difficult to grow here because of the lack of rain.

  15. I love how the day lilites accompany us through summer! I am not a gardener, but I can tell you first we had the deep yellow ones, now the oranges...How they highlight the landscape!

  16. I really enjoyed your photos! Our summer heat here is just too much for most annuals and perennials, but in the higher altitudes they seems to do better. How wonderful yours are persistent and reliable! I bet you're always guaranteed a show!
