Thinking of Home

Thinking of Home
I did this drawing sometime ago with graph tint pencils.   It was sketched from a photograph of an African wolf.   There was something about the tilt of the head and the look in the eye that drew me to title the drawing  "Thinking of Home".

In fifty plus years there have been three places I have called home.  Wonderful memories are associated with each one.   The first was where I grew up.  The second was a small efficiency apartment.  Hubby and I started our married life there.   The third is where I now live.

Having experienced homesickness a few times
I  identify with Dorothy in  the "Wizard of Oz".   Her entire goal was to get home.  Was it Kansas she missed or those she loved?

For me home is not the location.  It is the representation of love and acceptance of those who live there.

If in this life one finds that place they are indeed blessed.

Hoping you are all somewhere called home.

  3. Lovely post Debbie. I'm inclined to think that lovely wolf of yours is thinking about home too. I do get itchy feet to go on my wonderings every now and again but once I've been there a few days I always look forward to coming home. There really is nothing like home. Take care.

  4. I have had homesickness for every place (city/town/state/country) I've ever lived. Isn't that weird? It isn't as though all those places were full of happy memories. But? They all included my children when they were growing up. I don't think I've been satisfied since! I just wish we could all live together again. I'd have it but I know they wouldn't. Anyway, love the yearning in this wolf's eyes...It is a lovely piece and I like those pencils; I'd not heard of them before.

  5. I do love your art work and I'm inspired by it. Your writing was beautiful too...I guess I felt the most loved in both of my grandparents' homes. Sometimes I 'walk around' in those homes in my head, and I feel so good doing that. I wonder if we will be able to do that in heaven?
    Love you
    Debra

PS~ I felt loved in my parents' home too! I guess it sounded like I didn't!

  6. Very nice. I think I am HOME now, after having lived here for 22 years. But when I visit my mother in Colorado, in the house I grew up in, I feel quite at home, as well. As they say, Home is where the heart is.

  8. This is such a beautiful post. You have captured the essence of this lovely wolf in your drawing. Wolves have been on my mind a lot lately because of the hunting season on them now. I have lived in probably 16 different places in my life. My husband and I have been at this last place for almost 15 years. It felt like home from the moment we moved in.

  11. May I add that when you leave home and the loved ones it can take quite a while to build up the love in the new place.
That is when homesickness really happened for me. It took a few years to make good friends I could truly love in America but once I did, I stopped being so homesick for England.
