In the Kitchen

I spent time in the kitchen this week-end.
Snow was still flying and it just seemed like the perfect time to bake bread.   There is something extraordinary about the smell that permeates the house when this activity is taking place.

Some of you may remember my hubby has a gluten allergy.  It is more of a challenge to find a good tasting "staff of life" for him.   After countless trials I have found that this french one is a favorite.  There are many delicious dishes that are easily made gluten free but bread is not one of them.    Fortunately this loaf bakes up soft inside and crispy on the out.   After it is done I cut it partially through and stuff it with mushrooms,  swiss cheese and butter.  Then it is wrapped in foil and baked for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey.

Naturally all the calories are removed and it is guilt free eating (LOL)!

If anyone reading this blog has celiac disease or a wheat allergy and would like this recipe...just email me.   I am always glad to share.

I also pulled out my bread machine and baked a loaf of regular bread.

I will slice it with the electric knife and freeze in separate slices for my toast in the mornings.

It is a homey thing to bake bread on a cold winter afternoon and serve it with a warm bowl of soup or chili.  A simple meal but very satisfying.

Thanks for stopping by.    Glad you found me in the kitchen.
