Snowed In

Being snowed in has a lovely upside.

One has time to watch the birds...

Gluten Free French Bread
Bake something tasty...

Read a good book or two...

Paint something blooming.

Or when the sun shines venture a snowy walk .

If any of you are snowed in today - would love to hear what you are doing.   To those who are in a warm place - could you send some of it my way.

"He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,'  Job 37:6 a (NIV)

Winter's solitude

Winter has its own special brand of solitude.  The blanket of snow brings a quiet to the season.

It allows one to be still...

To reflect on what matters...

To study God's handiwork in nature...

and of course time to "look up".

Even with all of its challenges there are many wonderful blessings that come with winter's sojourn.

Hope all of you are enjoying this quiet time of the year.

"...in quietness and trust is your strength."  Isaiah 30:15 b (NIV)

Have a blessed week.

Warblers and Such

Last spring we entertained for a short while a little bird that I came to identify as a warbler.   In searching through some of my reference books found there are several types that visit us in Ohio.

They have a lovely song that lets you know they are close by.  Resembles the female finch a bit but smaller and more rotund.  Looking forward to their return.   Hope it won't be long.

Speaking of spring at last the snowdrops are starting to bloom.

The colder temperatures have kept them sleeping a bit longer than normal.

What a welcome sight...a promise that warmer weather will soon be arriving.

In the meantime will stay busy in the studio painting a few of my favorite things.

Would love to hear what you are doing while waiting for spring's arrival.

Hope you have a wonderful end to the week.

Take care and God Bless!

Week-end pleasures

This week-end found me enjoying the pleasures that warm weather brings.

The yellow finches are frequent visitors at the feeders.  They are stunning to see.  I love having my morning coffee while these fine feathered friends munch their breakfast.

It is delightful to have time to relax and just watch them as they go about their daily business.

Speaking of relaxing...

Hubby and I took the motorcycle for a lovely ride this afternoon.    We stopped at the Old Stagecoach Inn.   It was established in 1822.   Once it was a resting place for weary travelers.  Now it serves good food.   On some week-ends they have entertainment in the evening.   Local musicians gather and play old favorites.  They have a walk-up window that is open in the summer.   Cold drinks and ice cream are available.

Today we opted for ice cream!  There are tables along the street where one can sit and watch the local traffic go by.   A great place to stop and take a few minutes to savor the past.

Bird watching, motorcycle ride, beautiful weather, and ice cream...

life doesn't get much better than this!

Thank you for letting me share my week-end pleasures...hope you had some too!

Signs

We found some precious signs of spring today.
They came slowly this year.   Nonetheless they have started to arrive.

There was even a blossom or two to sniff.

A beautiful blue sky was so nice to see.  The honking geese could be heard overhead.    The peepers were even letting us know they were awake.   When they start to sing I know spring has finally come.

The woods look sparse now.   Soon it will burst with new life.

Thank you for stopping by.   I loved sharing some signs of spring with you.   Hope you are seeing some too!

A favorite winter past time...

A favorite winter past time of mine is feeding the birds.    When the snow flies I am busy keeping the feeders full.
We have a wonderful variety that visit our back deck.

There are blue jays, morning doves, cardinals,   juncos, chickadees, nuthatches and sparrows.

Occasionally there have even been indigo buntings and rufous towhees.   These generally come later in the season.

I am not the only one who enjoys watching these visitors.   The felines are entertained as well.
I am sure the birds are glad there is glass between them and these fur babies.

Thank you for stopping by to bird watch with us.

God Bless!

Setting Earlier

The sun is setting earlier these days.   A month ago we saw dusk arrive at 9:00 and then a few weeks ago it was 8:30 and now it is 8:00.   ...
