Finishing up!

Summer is finishing up.  Tomorrow it is official - we say farewell.  As I look back on these past few months it has not been a normal season for us.  We had a tremendous amount of rain in May and June but by mid July it was so dry nothing was growing.  As of this post we have not received more than a 10th of an inch for over eight weeks.  The forecast says we may see some some showers in the next couple of days.

Well enough about the weather...the last I checked it is something only the Good Lord controls!

In the meantime I am trying to finish up a few books that are on my list to be read.

"The Sunrise Cove Inn" by Katie Winters is the first in a series of 19 novels.  May read the second down the road. The first one ended with some things unresolved.

Began "Our Beautiful Goodbyes" by Julianne MacLean but decided to put it aside for the time being.  I may go back to it later but for now found it to be rather difficult to engage with the characters.  In my younger days if I started a book - always finished it.  Not so now.  Age has taught me life is too short to be that dogmatic when it comes to reading something for pleasure.  "Blue Jeans and Coffee beans" by Joanne Demaio seems to be entertaining  ...will let you know if this one is a pleaser.   Lauren K. Denton is an author that writes a good story.  Just finished "The Hideaway" and wanted to read "A Place to Land".   "Women of the Dunes" takes place in Scotland.  Sarah Maine captured my attention in "The House Between Tides".  It kept me turning the page therefore am hopeful this one will also.  Well that is my stack of reading material for the next few weeks.

Am in the process of completing a few art projects and working on the "small painting" challenge.

Please share friends, what you are in the midst of finishing up as the summer season comes to a close.  Would love to know!

Hugs

Debbie

  1. The red hanging flowers are so pretty, Debbie. Fall has already started here in the mountains, as it's a bit cooler now and the trees are changing color. I admire all the reading that you do. And your artwork is always a pleasure to see. Monday is officially Autumn. Happy Fall days Debbie. The verse you shared today is wonderful.

  3. It seems my flowering plants and my basil are finishing up. I have several paintings I need to finish up before a show in November. My trip to Venice is coming up soon so I need to finish up organizing and packing for that. I took note of the books you showed. I keep a list of recommended books to add to my iPad for evening reading. I hope God provides some rain for you and for my area too. Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. Summer is NOT my favorite season. I for one am glad that fall is here - but the temperature is still HOT here. You read a lot of books! Also, that flower you drew is absolutely beautiful! You are so artistic - I could never do that.
What we are in the mist of, and I have to have patience for - Shaye and Andy went to the hospital today and so did we - thinking they were in labor, and the baby was going to be born. They are in labor - but got sent home because she is not that ready. LOL !!!!!

  7. Summer is simply too hot for me to truly enjoy, Debbie, so I'm looking forward to cooler temps. I have a bunch of books waiting in the wings and just haven't been motivated to complete any at this point. Oh, well, at least I'm reading my Bible. Blessings!

  9. Debbie, thanks for sharing that story about the deer in my area. It was so interesting to read, and I didn't know that. I've been seeing a mama deer and her two fawn often around the neighborhood. They just go from one house to the next, but it seems they stay for a moment or two at a couple different houses, and mine is one of them. They also like something in my neighbor's back yard because they sometimes jump their fence and go back there. ; )

  10. happy fall!
Our weather has been so nice but oh so dry we need rain badly. I think some coming in tonight and then Wednesday hopefully.
I need to get back to painting but I am working on my Halloween sampler, and other rug, way to many projects at once.

  11. Thanks for the beautiful flowers and book suggestions. Never get to read anymore, do listen to some. Our world is still the hot and dry summer days. No rain expected for another week I think. Your drawing is exquisite.

  12. I really enjoyed reading your reflections, Debbie 🌿.

Saying goodbye to summer always feels a bit bittersweet, doesn’t it? I love how you’ve gathered a cozy stack of books to ease the transition. I smiled when you wrote that life is too short to finish books we don’t connect with — I’ve learned the same lesson. Your little art projects sound so lovely too. Thank you for sharing this glimpse into your days — it’s always encouraging. Sending hugs back to you from across the miles 🤗.

  13. Dear Debbie I really hope you get some rain asap amen 🙏
Some parts of our country drowned because of excessive rainfall here .
Your flowers are so beautiful 🥰👍
Books you are reading sound interesting. I too agree that with age our eyes and other senses weaken and we find joy in easier options sometimes.
Best of luck with new books 👍
    Hugs and best wishes!
