There are so many wonderful Christmas Carols that it is a challenge to say which one would be my favorite.
"Silent Night", "The First Noel" ," Away in a Manger" are all well loved. One though that seems to be especially uplifting is "Joy To The World". It was written by a London pastor Isaac Watts. I just recently read though that Mr. Watts did not have the birth of Christ in mind when he wrote this hymn. He based the words on his interpretation of Psalm 98 which does not refer to the Lord's birth.
How it became a Christmas carol remains a mystery. I am sure though that it is a great favorite of many during this beautiful season of the year. It is one of mine. Hope you enjoy this lovely song performed by Celtic Women.
"Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music, make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and sound of singing." Psalm 98:4-5 (NIV)
Have a joyful week.
Hugs Debbie
OHMYGOSH, Debbie. I listened to that rendition and it brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful. I heard them sing many times but never Joy To The World. What an interesting history of the song- I did not know that! Have a wonderful week. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI listen to the Celtic women sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThere are times when the carols I like to hear are me singing in the car. The echo and small space helps muffle the sound of my voice. lol
Always lovely to hear the story behind the song. And yes, a beautiful rendition by the Celtic Women. What a treat! Thank you, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteWhat an uplifting rendition of Joy to start the week off right. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful and uplifting!! Thanks so much Deb!!! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThat surprise me that this song was not meant for a Christmas song. I love it as well, Debbie. It's so uplifting. The Celtic women look lovely all in Red.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week.

ps.....my favorite Christmas song is Silent Night. I love the story behind it too.
Debbie, I think Christmas Town is a new one this year. Keep on the look out for it, and you will probably come across it. It's so charming, and I think you will really like it. Such a heartwarming story. Candace Cameron Bure is a favorite of mine in the Hallmark movies. : )
ReplyDeleteI love this carol and the Celtic Women. I really need to settle down and listen to some Christmas music. My mood is rather subdued this year.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, Debbie!!! and such a treat.! Have a wonderful week, my friend....

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Christmas carol and beautifully performed, but my favorite must be ' Silent Night ' , always moves me .
ReplyDeleteA beautiful performance! How stange that it wasn't written as a Christmas song when it fits so perfectly. My favorite still has to be, "Silent Night." Whenever I hear it I get goosebumps! Have a wonderful weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Christmas carols, I especially love Silent Night in Polish, so beautiful! Thank you so much for your visit, I am following, have a lovely day☺
ReplyDeleteThis time of year and the celebration of Christmas is special. Cards, carols, food, sharing, giving, smiling and reverence all brought together. Best wishes to all!
ReplyDeleteNice song, mine, full of nostalgia is "Come all faithful" because of the circumstances that I sang in the choir that I was, for that special Christmas and for many reasons remained anchored inside me.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas.
Regards.
This was beautiful to watch and listen to. Thank you. I love all the old Christmas Carols and don't know which is my favorite. Maybe "The First Noel".

ReplyDeleteMy ex-husband and I had always managed to stay friendly after our divorce in February 2017. But I always wanted to get back together with him, All it took was a visit to this spell casters website last December, because my dream was to start a new year with my husband, and live happily with him.. This spell caster requested a specific love spell for me and my husband, and I accepted it. And this powerful spell caster began to work his magic. And 48 hours after this spell caster worked for me, my husband called me back for us to be together again, and he was remorseful for all his wrong deeds. My spell is working because guess what: My “husband” is back and we are making preparations on how to go to court and withdraw our divorce papers ASAP. This is nothing short of a miracle. Thank you Dr Emu for your powerful spells. Words are not enough. here is his Email: emutemple@gmail.com or call/text him on his WhatsApp +2347012841542
