Sketching Outdoors

When sketching outdoors I travel light.    This little bag holds everything that is needed.

It is always packed and ready to go.

The small case holds a 5X7 mixed media sketchpad, a set of basic watercolors with palette, a brush, pencil, micron pen, a handful of watercolor pencils, a few folded paper towels and two 35mm camera cases.  They are filled with water.   A pencil sharpener, an eraser and a tiny spray bottle complete the contents.

If I am going to be out for a bit I take this small fold up chair.  It has a built in knapsack.   A lunch a thermos of coffee...

and a snack for my two companions fits inside nicely.
Thanks for stopping by.  I enjoyed sharing my sketching ensemble with you.
 Have a blessed evening!

  1. Hi Debbie, love that bag! It is so good that you are organized and ready to go with all the tools you need. (including something to eat for yourself as well as your companions).

  7. Hope you had a good day painting. I noticed a lovely photograph of your woodland trees and the beautiful spring flowers, it looks gorgeous and I can remember how wonderful it looked last year on your blog. After a long winter they really cheer you up seeing the flowers and in such a natural setting. I was just coming to visit and found your comment, thank you.

  10. Looks like a great set-up. I wish I could pack less and paint more outside but I seem to want to take everything plus the kitchen sink!

  11. I am so happy that I stopped by to read this great post! I love the barn painting; it's beautiful. I haven't ventured outdoors to do a lot of painting, but I plan to this summer with my granddaughter. After reading your post...I am really excited! Thank you, again, for the inspiration!

  12. Oh Debbie thanks for showing us your plein air gear. I'm always fascinated to see what people take out with them. It helps me reduce what I take. I would take the kitchen sink if I could. I was never a girl guide but I use one of their mottos 'always be prepared'. Trouble is being prepared is heavy work... lol Love your little sketch. Interesting to see you take tube paints out too. I use pans with paint squeezed in. I would end up loosing all my tubes otherwise... Sorry for the long reply. This was just too inspiring. Enjoy your week. xx

  14. The chair is a great idea...I need to put one in the trunk of my car. My art group gets together and they paint out doors. I have not done it with my doodles But it may be interesting to try.
