Daffodils

With spring's arrival the daffodils begin to
bloom.  Cheerful visitors that are so welcome.   They come in many varieties.  There are fragrant ones, trumpet,  butterfly, miniature, small and large cup.   Some are yellow, white and even pink.   They wear such interesting names...
Spellbinder, Pheasant's Eye, Mt Hood.

A favorite past time of mine is gathering them to bring indoors to sketch.    A side view gives you a glimpse of their frilly centers.   My sketchbooks hold pages of these lovely harbingers of the season.

They are very easy to grow.  Not the least bit fussy.   Even the fancier ones seem to thrive in almost any situation.

Over the years my beds have become rather crowded with different species.   It seems when the catalogs arrive in August my head says "no more".  My heart says "these would look lovely somewhere in the garden."   The heart wins.  When spring comes I am glad it did!

Thank you for taking some time to visit.   Hope you enjoyed the daffodil tour .   Come back soon.

  2. Aw, I have a soft spot for daffodils. They were my mother's favorite, and now they are mine too. Every spring they are like you said, 'trumpets' announcing the coming of warm sunny days ahead! Lovely photos and a lovely post!

  6. Hello dear~ Your painting is lovely-you have captured the daffies perfectly. I'm with you-I love having them around-they are cheerful and all the forms of them are so interesting. I think White FLower Farm has a package deal of them-you get quite a lot of the bulbs for a good price. I'm always so tempted by the catalogs!

  7. Oh, the daffs in our neighborhood are all beaten down and going - they arrived early and made me smile - the daffodils and the forsythia say, "Spring is coming!" to me :) Thanks for sharing this.

  14. Hi Debbie. Just love your wonderful daff painting and post but then again I love daffs and spring. Daffs herald spring is here with their simple beauty but they are oh so difficult to paint. My pads are full of them too. Keep enjoying the joys they bring through sight and brush. Take care. :-)

  18. Hi Debbie, I really like your sketches of the daffodils, and the photos of them and the bird. I love daffodils, too, and not just because they're the only things that the critters around her won't dig up. ;) They're so very cheerful!

    Blessings, Victoria
