Precious Days

May is filled with precious days.  Generally the weather at Harmony Hills is lovely...not too hot and not too cold.

As you can see in the above photo the Baltimore Orioles have arrived.  They are here from May to the end of July.  I am kept busy with slicing oranges and filling up bowls of jelly.  They are gorgeous birds.  Naturally the male's coloring is more flamboyant than the female but both catch your eye when they visit.

Pink Bleeding Heart are in bloom.  Their heart shape forms make me want to pick up a paint brush.

This yellow daylily is the first to make a show.  Its petals last only a day.  Perhaps that is why it is so precious.

Woodland Hyacinths may be small but they do not go unnoticed.  They enjoy a patch in the shade which brightens the garden.

The wallflowers are adding color to the veggie patch.  Soon they will keep company with the beets and lettuce that were just planted.

Last but not least  the blackberries are in blossom.  Hopefully they will bear lots of delicious fruit.

Yes, May is full of many precious moments.  Hope you are enjoying this special month.

Hugs

Favorite

This certainly has to be my favorite season of the year.  I do adore autumn but spring takes the prize.

As hubby commented spring is the beginning of all the good things to come.  The trees are leafing out. As my previous post stated, the peach and cherry trees are blooming (in fact the peach has passed its prime and is shedding its final blossoms).   Now the azaleas are flowering...

 the dogwood tree...

and the bleeding heart.

It is not just the flowers that make spring my favorite time of the year.  There are the sounds of the birds as they call to their mates.  Catching the fragrance that comes from the first time one mows the lawn.  Rainy days that give way to sunny skies.  Hanging out sheets that dry in the breeze.  Placing hands in cool soil and planting those early seeds that will fill us with good things to eat.

Well thank you for letting me share a few favorite things of my favorite season of the year.

Is springtime yours?

Hugs

Debbie

"My Mother's Prayers Have Followed Me"

There Is an old hymn that comes to mind today..."My Mother's Prayers Have Followed Me".

My beloved Mom was a woman of prayer and I know she prayed for me throughout her life.

Today I am so grateful for all those prayers.

Hope you will enjoy hearing this song.

God Bless!

Blooming

Here are a few pics of what has been blooming at Harmony Hills this past week.

Orange tulips with Virginia Bluebells... they make a lovely pair.

These pink azaleas always tell me spring is in full swing.

A few of the later variety of daffodils are still bringing cheer along the woodland path.

Pink Bleeding hearts never fail to to bring joy to mine.

The sweet scent of lilacs always evoke precious memories of my Grandmother.  They were a favorite of hers.

Well there you have it friends.   Hope you enjoyed the garden tour.   Thanks for letting me share what has been blooming here.

Have a Blessed Week!

The Garden

Let me welcome you to the garden.  Hope you will enjoy a spring stroll.
These brilliant daylilies are just beginning to open.

The Star of Bethlehem does so much to brighten a shady spot.

Blue and white columbine tumble down a leaf strewn bank.
Pink Bleeding Heart dance so delicately upon their perch.

Perfume from the lilacs scent the air.

It was so nice you took a few moments to visit the garden.

Thank you for stopping by.   Have a blessed evening!

What a wonderful Surprise!

I received a wonderful surprise.
Laura Moore awarded my blog with the Liebster Award. It was so sweet of her to think of me.

Laura is one of those blogging friends that I hope to meet someday.  She is a very talented watercolor artist residing in the U.K.

She paints the things I love and does it so well...flowers, landscapes, birds and pieces of nature.   If you haven't stopped to visit Laura's blog - please do.   Thank you dear Laura for awarding me this honor.

With winter on its way out and spring just around the corner I am longing for flowers.  Digging out a photo of bleeding hearts that was shot last May inspired me to do the above mixed media piece.   Raw Sienna ink, watercolors and watercolor pencil were used on hot press paper.

Bleeding hearts are such a favorite plant.   Their little pink heart shaped blossoms grow tall above their foliage.   They withstand frosty mornings if they are grown in a protected location.   Our woods seems to be a welcome place for them and they thrive here very well.

It will be May before we know it and the cold winds of March will soon be forgotten.    Winter is bidding us farewell.  Soon spring will say hello!  In the meantime let us all find some cheer in knowing the flowers are beginning to awaken from their long nap.  Once again blossoms will dance in the delightful breeze providing nectar to the birds and the bees.

May all your dreams be sweet!  Have a good night.

Setting Earlier

The sun is setting earlier these days.   A month ago we saw dusk arrive at 9:00 and then a few weeks ago it was 8:30 and now it is 8:00.   ...
