Christmas Treasures

This time of the year I love rediscovering Christmas treasures.   They have been  hidden away waiting to reappear. This is their special season.

Some are beloved ornaments hanging on the tree.

Others are decorations sitting in their favorite spot.

Many are beloved gifts from years past.

I am reminded of the giver.   Some are gone now.  Some live far away.

Time and circumstance comes to each of us.  Not all things remain the same.   Even some of these treasures have become cracked and worn.  They just serve as reminders.  What remains is the warm joy of remembering the love and thoughtfulness that was shared.   The true Christmas treasures are always my memories.

I hope you are enjoying some of those too!

Have a delightful week.

Hugs Debbie

  6. Evening Debbie, Such a beautiful and sentimental post about memories with our trees and ornaments....Your tree is so lovely and glows with LOVE! I decided (since we've moved twice in 18 mos) to do something totally FUN and DIFFERENT this year for Christmas....we went out the other night and bought a real, 12 ft. tree...approx 14-15 ft around.....it takes up so much room but it has put a smile on our faces!......Blessings, and Merry Christmas~~~Blessings~~~Roxie

  10. It's true-opening those boxes and looking at all of the decorations serve to remind us of what has passed and what still is here. Sort of a nice moment.

  13. It looks like you had so much fun decorating, Debbie. I have pretty much lost the holiday spirit. It took 55 years but once the kids moved out and years afterwards, no one ever shared my love of the holiday. Circumstances being what they are now and I have to confess that I am just not feeling it this year. Love that wooden Santa!

  15. Wonderful post.
I agree with the importance of memories.
My heart still smiles when I think of the chocolate homemade fudge back in 1975. A perfection that has yet to be topped, it and all those surroundings, the times blend into a wonderful 2014 holiday. I think each of us has the ingredients for a beautiful holiday season...all the better when fudge is included.

  17. My great grandmothers- grandmother - and my dearest mother's Christmas treasures are cherished each year. I agree - it is a special time of love and remembrance.
I enjoy seeing our children start their own traditions and I have carefully chosen some of my treasures to help them with that. It appears I have raised them right...the hand-made items are the cherished ones.
I enjoyed seeing your tree done in the newer decoration style mixed with your treasures. It looks GORGEOUS! The plate reminds me of a couple I own from England, and I was wondering if the santa in the poinsettia basket is wooden and carved? I love him holding the tree!
PS...I agree with Maywyn above...it is better with fudge!

  18. Like you, I am beautifully reminded of moments past and treasures given. I have some family things such as a small wooden manger scene of my mother's, a wreath made by my son in Kindergarten and a little quilt made by a friend who was an exquisite quilt maker. I use my grandmother's coconut candy recipe and listen to a Christmas music CD given by a friend who past way a month ago. The connections to the past at this time of year are a great treasure that gift my inner spirit. Thank you for your beautiful post!

  22. Unpacking the Christmas decorations is so much fun! I just did it today, in fact. I've scaled down a lot now that my son is (sniff) 20. We also have a curious and fearless kitty, so everything breakable must be in places she can't get to...and there aren't very many of those! Still, it's nice to see the decorations in place--gives the house a festive feel. I especially like your centerpiece with the wooden(?) Santa.

  23. Funny how we keep all those memorabilias through the years! You' re into the Holiday's spirit Debbie and I like the sweet angel at the top of your tree. I do have some oldies too that I keep bringing out every year and I love adding festive touches through the house day after day until Christmas gets here. It's a wonderful time of the year and I'm glad you're enjoying it too. Hugs

  24. What really lovely sentiments. You have made me look closer at my own ornaments and remember where I received them from, some were my Mum's Which remind me of her.

  25. It is exactly the same here, my Christmas is 'built' from memories , every ornament holds a memory from someone dear, and every year something new is added. xx

  28. Debbie, I think that's why I love Christmas so much...all of the memories of loved ones and places that are gone come back to be with me at Christmas. I love your decorations, they're beautiful.

  30. Oh Debbie, you described exactly how I feel when my "treasures" come out each year. I think about the person that gave it to me or created it, or the wonderful time I had at the place it represents. I hung the last few remaining ornaments that we had on our tree when we were kids. They have to be at least 60 years old...and show their age like I do. lol Thanks for showing us your lovely items. Enjoy the day.
