Autumn's Labor

Isn't it amazing how spring delivers the fruit of autumn's labor.  In the fall bulbs are planted.  To all appearances there is no life.

Several months later gorgeous blossoms appear.  A wonderful site for the winter weary souls.

These minor bulbs are Glory of the Snow.    Here in the woods they have naturalized so well.

The birds have helped in the work of spreading them throughout the garden.

There are several types of tiny blooms that seem to like their home here...they carpet the ground beneath the daffodils and tulips.  Every year there seems to be more.  They make a show for a few short weeks and then disappear.  I never pull them out because they make the woodland floor so welcoming.

Thanks for letting me share a bit of my autumn's labor.   Hope yours is blooming as well.   Have a beautiful day!

  1. How pretty! I have never heard of the flowers glory of the snow. I have forget me not's that come up all over our yard that I just love though nothing is in bloom yet. Hopefully the snow is done and spring will show up soon.

  3. I love how you've grouped the daffodils and the glory of the snow bulbs together, so beautiful! And, blue and yellow is such a cheerful combination. My daffodils are blooming, and the wild cherry trees, but so far that's all. I'm going to plant some glory of the snow this autumn, you've inspired me!

    Blessings, Victoria

  6. I still mourn the loss of my green thumb. I've planted lilac bushes that have keeled over. Hydrangea bushes that are showing no signs of life. Raspberry bushes that my husband mowed right over (no signs of those either. A pussy willow tree that leans lopsided and hasn't grown an inch in the year since I planted it. I am enjoying seeing your flowers though!

  8. Lovely pictures Debbie! Bulbs are a favorite of mine, it's always a surprise to watch them grow just after the snow. Can't wait to see grass and flowers here.

  9. Yes, I'm always glad to see the spring bulbs blooming again. Somehow I never quite believe they will come up, but they always do! I guess that's nature's lesson in having faith, right? Will you be planting annuals soon? I'm waiting a few more weeks, but I'm itching to get some geraniums in the flower pots.

  13. Your autumn toil was well worth the effort. Your spring blooms are lovely. I have a shady garden space that I wish were even half so pretty. I especially like your Glory in the Snow. Maybe I'll try them in my garden.

  18. Mornin' Debbie, Oh, I agree..those tiny flowers covering the woodland floors are beautiful! I wouldn't change a thing. I'm sure it's more breathtaking seeing the natural display in person than from a picture! The fruits of your labor proved worth of blessings to you! I am truly a more passionate "gardener at heart" than a "decorator". I LOVE the beauty of the landscapes and you are truly blessed with that! Have a wonderful weekend~~~Roxie
